Workshop on programming phones

Lots of people are starting to explore programming phones, whether iPhones, Androids or Windows Mobile.
I have little experience, other than having followed a tutorial on Android programming that ended up with “Hello World” on the Android emulator! But I know lots of you are experimenting or want to experiment. So on the afternoons of Monday 14th  and Tuesday 15th June we will have 2 sessions to allow people to work together to explore and learn from each other.
If you can come along please post a comment on this post on RedGloo, indicate what devices you are interested and what experience you have, which day or days you can come. This will allow us to plan how we will work.
For now this is only for people at Reading University, but we could widen things at a later date.

  1. I  would be interested to know if there are any other windows mobile developers around. I have done a few projects on wimo 6, and have been playing with the RTM of the windows phone 7 emulator recently, which adds XNA and XAML support. I can make either session.

  2. I don’t have much experience in this field. I just managed to run “hello world” on the iPhone emulator. If i get a chance I’ll look more into it. I would like to learn more about mobile programming. I can make it either session too.

  3. Interested in Andriod operating systems. Have no previous experince in any form of device so far. Any of the days are fine for me.
    Jordan

  4. No experience but interested in iPhone and Android, mainly to go where the money is.
I’m afraid I’m unable to do the Tuesday session, but Monday will work. Cheers.

  5. I’ll see if I’m about, would like to get at least a little something started with Android. I will bring along my Nexus One which is running Froyo

  6. I am interested in programming for Windows Mobile and C# .NET, because I want to add better control to my robots. I can come only on Tuesday 15th.

  7. I would have been very interested in these sessions, but unfortunately I am timetabled in for both those afternoons doing other things.

  8. I’m interested and have done a touch of iPhone development. I’m currently also looking into iPad development as well.

  9. I’m interested in programming for Windows mobile and have gotten a hello world app running on my phone.

I can only make the Tuesday session.

  10. I’m interested in both Android and iPhone development. Sadly my Mac recently decided it would die so the latter isn’t currently a viable option. “Hello, World!” is my sum experience on both platforms.
I am able to make the Tuesday session and possibly some of the Monday session.

  11. Either day, or both days. Experience with a range of mobile platforms, currently developing for the iPhone.

  12. Either day, or both.  Minimal Windows Mobile 7 emulation experience.  Used WiMo 6.1 Pro Alot.

  13. Will be attending on the monday (14th) Just begun Iphone development , doing an IPAD project for my final project πŸ™‚

  14. I don’t have any experience in any of those platforms but am keenly interested in iPhone and Android.
    Both days possibly.

  15. I’m interested in Android development, and i’m free for both afternoons. My experience covers layouts, the assets system and some basic functionality.

  16. I can make Monday the 14th. No experience with any platform, most interested in Windows Phone 7 / iPhone/iPad.

  17. I’m very interested in Android, I used to work on mobile phone software development, but haven’t touched it for a while so would love to see how Android works. I can make the Tuesday session.

  18. I don’t have any experience in any of those platforms but am keenly interested in iPhone and Android.

    Both days possibly.

  19. I am interested on Android. I am currently trying to work with SDK and eclipse. Both days are fine by me.

  20. Myself, Cem Ormesher Hussain and Mo Beldo are all wanting to attend on either of the days working on the iphone.

  21. I too am very interested in learning how to do proper mobile devices programming. I’m especially interested in objective-c and cocoa programing for iPhone and iPad. Over the spring holidays I started doing some reading up and tried my best teaching myself some objective-c, but I forgot most of it over the exam preparation season…

  22. Very interesed in this workshop, have basic win mobile experience but would love to try iPhone and Android development, can only attend the Monday session unfortunately.

  23. I can make both sessions. I’ve got no experience but I’m interested in mobile development on any platform

  24. I would be interested in attending one or other, probably the Monday session – more to see what others think and do than anything else.

  25. I have very basic Windows mobile experience and am intersted in adroid aswell. I can make the Tuesday session

  26. My main interest will be in the Android platform but since my last phone was a WinMo, I’m interested in that too. My latest phone is an the HTC Desire/Bravo, although unlike Chris’ it doesn’t have Froyo yet- I may have to wait until the end of the month 😦
I’m completely new to Android/WinMo programming so I’m looking forward to this πŸ™‚
I’m only going to be able to make it on the Tuesday though.

  27. Recently got myself a Mac Mini and signed up to the Apple Developer Program. Managed to get an app running on my iPhone that performs some financial calculations on one page, but very basic. New to Objective-C and so would really appreciate some help making objects from different classes talk to each other… Am free on both days, but not sure how much time I can commit. Thanks for setting this up! Ben.

  28. intersted in android, specificaly HTC desire hardware, and any openGL support.  Not much experience in mobile dev.  Can make both days.

  29. I’m interested. No experiance and interested in WinMo and Android. I can only make tuesday. Thanks for setting this up. Sounds like a great idea.

  31. I’ve got a bit of experience with mobile Java for embedded stuff (sensor networks) but not done anything with phones before. If anyone’s interested I could probably bring a couple of SunSPOTs (http://www.sunspotworld.com/) along. I can do either day, I’m mostly interested in iphone or android.

  32. Count me in, but only for Monday 15th.
Interested in Android. Have coded games for WAP and J2ME, but that was for a company that no longer exists back in in 2001. I *might* need a bit of a refresher πŸ˜‰

  33. I have experience working on J2ME I am  intrested in Iphone applications. I can make on Monday afternoon.
